Description

Under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Mission Advancement, the Vice President of Community Partnerships works to develop and maintain key external partnerships in support of initiatives focused on special programs and projects that help achieve Tampa YMCA strategic priorities. Community work will have a special emphasis on brand awareness, volunteer development, special events, fundraisers, and identified Strategic Plan objectives. This position will also cultivate and strengthen relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, associations, and government agencies to secure philanthropic support for programs, special initiatives, and community-impact projects. In addition, the Vice President of Community Partnerships will oversee the association's volunteer engagement strategy and support board development efforts to strengthen leadership involvement and community advocacy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Partnership Engagement
  • Is actively engaged, present, and visible in the community ensuring a strong Y presence throughout our service area at high-profile and meaningful community events. Represents the Y at appropriate community forums and collaborative community initiatives.
  • Serves as a key representative and Y point of contact for individuals and/or organizations looking to partner with the Y. This includes current partnerships as well as new inquiries.
  • Builds strategic relationships with community leaders to enhance awareness around critical needs programs within the Tampa YMCA's communities.
  • Participates in local civic organizations and chambers of commerce throughout Tampa to establish relationships that increase his/her portfolio of local stakeholders.
  • Maintain awareness and insight around impactful community initiatives and evaluate potential roles for the Y if appropriate to advance our capacity to serve target audiences.
  • Help to determine when/where our Y will invest in sponsoring other organization's events, galas, outing, etc...

Philanthropic Growth and Engagement
  • Supports the development and implementation of the Association's annual philanthropic strategy in collaboration with Mission Advancement leadership, center executives, and development staff.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, community organizations, and strategic partners to advance the YMCA's mission and philanthropic initiatives.
  • Develops and manages a portfolio of community partners, donors, sponsors, and philanthropic prospects through intentional cultivation, stewardship, and engagement strategies.
  • Provides strategic support and recommendations to Mission Advancement leadership regarding fundraising opportunities, partnership growth, donor engagement trends, and community impact initiatives.
  • Supports and even manages select association-wide events and initiatives through partnership development, sponsorship engagement, donor cultivation, and volunteer leadership support.

Volunteer Engagement
  • Working with key organizational leaders, develop a strategy an operational model to ensure that the Y has a robust, effective, high-quality, and sustainable volunteer recruitment management and recognition program.
  • Supports and strengthens volunteer engagement strategies throughout the organization.
  • Through purposeful community work, identify strong candidates for our Center Advisory Boards.
  • Own the operation and administration of our volunteer engagement and tracking portal.

Safety and Risk Management
  • Adhere to all Federal, State, and local safety regulations, as well as all YMCA policies and procedures related to the safety, health, and welfare of members, participants, guests, and staff.
  • Ensure that all Tampa YMCA standards, leading practices, and policies are implemented and consistently followed, including those related to emergency procedures, child abuse prevention, and appropriate supervision.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising participants and boundaries with participants when applicable.
  • Ensure implementation of and follows all training requirements including risk management and child abuse prevention training in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment at all times, including performing daily safety checks of program areas, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain proper records, including certifications, meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain an emphasis on safety in all areas of responsibility as they relate to members and staff.
  • Adhere to risk management training requirements including child abuse prevention.
  • Front desk personnel-ensure member or association guest are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and respectful environment for members, guests, and staff.
  • Promptly report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior, as well as policy violations, following established association procedures.

Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nonprofit management, business, communications, public relations, marketing, community development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in community partnerships, philanthropy, fundraising, corporate engagement, sponsorship development, volunteer engagement, or relationship management, preferably within a nonprofit or community-focused organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with community leaders, donors, corporations, civic organizations, volunteers, and strategic partners.
  • Strong understanding of the local community landscape, including the ability to identify partnership opportunities, connect community needs with organizational initiatives, and represent the YMCA within diverse community settings.
  • Experience collaborating with senior-level executives, board members, volunteers, community stakeholders, and philanthropic partners to advance organizational goals and community impact efforts.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic engagement, partnership, sponsorship, and donor stewardship initiatives that support mission-driven outcomes.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences and constituents.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and strategic-thinking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, build collaborative relationships, and adapt within a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of fundraising, sponsorship, donor stewardship, volunteer engagement, and community partnership best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent an organization professionally within the community through networking, public speaking, civic engagement, and relationship-building activities.
  • Understanding of and passion for the YMCA mission, values, and commitment to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Commitment to the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately manage sensitive donor, partnership, and organizational information.

Certifications/Trainings Required:
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation for fundraisers preferred.
  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.
  • Maintain other required certifications as stated in the training matrix.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job including, but not limited to:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and authorized work phone/smart device
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including but not limited to, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment
  • Ability to lift and move a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat and cold
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • This position may require availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
