Patient Access Specialists are responsible for guiding patients through the visit process by screening patients for eligibility, preparing patient information for clinical staff, and answering patient questions. The role provides high-level administrative support to the patient access team, including completion of patient medical insurance eligibility, processing benefits, and referral authorizations for patients.
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Work Experience and Additional Information
Two years experience as a PAS 1 or equivalent with scheduling and/or registration and/or insurance verification in a healthcare setting
Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform Patient Access functions for all specialties and divisions such as registration, pre registration, scheduling, and benefit verification to ensure daily operations are maintained according to standard
• Conduct accurate scheduling and registration processes by phone, fax, email or MyChart requests for demographic information, insurance information, and patient liability to promote a seamless patient experience
• May be assigned to perform Operator functions to ensure proper routing of call
• Assists in training new or inexperienced staff on process, culture, and methodologies through job shadow and informal discussion to promote consistent customer service
• Displays highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to maintain customer satisfaction
• Develop and manage successful communications and relationships with providers, staff and administrative teams to create awareness of patient experience initiative
• Maintains overall patient experience and safety, following all policies and protocols, to allow for optimal experience of care
• Collaborate with department leadership to meet customer/patient service outcomes for patient experience goals
