Position Summary
Florida Orthopaedic Institute is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the orthopaedic trauma and adult reconstruction team supporting Dr. Thomas Stang, a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic trauma, fracture care, and joint reconstruction.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside a highly respected orthopaedic surgeon in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with exposure to both operative and clinical orthopaedic care. The APP will play an integral role in supporting patient care across the continuum, including clinic evaluations, surgical first assist responsibilities, inpatient rounding, post-operative management, and fracture care.
The ideal candidate is clinically driven, highly adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic orthopaedic setting. Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
- Current Florida licensure (or eligibility) as a PA or NP
- NCCPA certification (PA) or national board certification (NP) required
Experience:
- Experienced candidates:
- 1-5+ years of orthopaedic, trauma, sports medicine, surgical, or inpatient experience preferred
- Prior first assist experience strongly preferred
- Experience managing independent clinic responsibilities preferred
- Familiarity with fracture care, imaging review, post-operative management, and orthopaedic procedures preferred
- New graduates:
- Strong interest in orthopaedics and surgery required
- Prior orthopaedic, sports medicine, athletic training, MA, scribe, or surgical rotation experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Willingness to learn and grow within a high-volume orthopaedic practice
- Demonstrated ability or potential to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, staff, and hospital teams
- Comfortable working in both clinic and OR settings
- BLS required (ACLS preferred)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care in both clinic and hospital settings
- Assist in the evaluation and management of orthopaedic trauma and adult reconstruction patients
- Conduct patient histories, physical examinations, and orthopaedic assessments
- Manage follow-up and post-operative patient care independently in clinic
- Serve as first assist in the operating room, including surgical exposure, instrumentation, closure, and procedural support
- Participate in inpatient rounding and hospital consultations as needed
- Review and interpret diagnostic imaging including X-rays, CT scans, and MRI studies
- Assist with fracture care, splinting, casting, injections, wound care, and bedside procedures as appropriate
- Support pre-operative and post-operative workflows, including patient education and care coordination
- Address patient calls, clinical concerns, and follow-up questions in collaboration with the physician and care team
- Accurately document patient encounters, procedures, and treatment plans within the EMR
- Collaborate closely with physicians, clinical staff, hospital teams, and ancillary departments to ensure efficient patient care delivery
- Participate in shared weekend rounding responsibilities
- Maintain professionalism and adherence to FOI quality and patient care standards
- Participate in ongoing education, training, and professional development activities
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support practice and service line needs
