Responsibilities
Florida State University College of Medicine (FSU MED) invites applications for the position of Director of Clinical Foundations within the Office of Medical Education.
This faculty leadership position provides strategic and operational leadership for the implementation, management, assessment, and continuous improvement of the first two years of the undergraduate medical education curriculum. The Director is responsible for supporting academic excellence, curricular integration, educational innovation, and the successful transition of medical students from the pre-clerkship curriculum to their clinical education.
This is a faculty position reporting to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, with responsibility for leading the implementation, management, assessment, and continuous improvement of the M1 and M2 curriculum. The Director works collaboratively with course directors, faculty, staff, and medical education leadership to promote academic excellence, curricular integration and innovation, and alignment with the College's educational program objectives, mission, and applicable Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards.
The Director oversees the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the pre-clerkship curriculum, including curricular activities, educational assessments, course and examination processes, and student learning outcomes. The Director serves as Chair of the Year 1 & 2 Subcommittee of the Curriculum Committee and as an ex-officio member of the Year 3 & 4 Subcommittee and Curriculum Committee, providing leadership for course review, curricular evaluation, outcomes assessment, continuous quality improvement, and accreditation activities. Responsibilities also include oversight and analysis of National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) examinations, the Comprehensive Basic Science Examination (CBSE), and USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) Step 1 preparation and outcomes.
The Director will also oversee the College of Medicine Course Master Schedule with support from MED Administrative Services, as needed. The Director provides leadership and supervision for Office of Medical Education staff supporting the pre-clerkship curriculum and supports the development of course directors and faculty. Working with medical education leadership and other College programs, the Director contributes to strategic planning and integration of the four-year undergraduate medical education curriculum, supports students' successful transition to the clinical years, and represents the College on appropriate committees and initiatives related to medical education.
The successful candidate will be considered for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level, with academic rank determined based on qualifications and experience and in accordance with College and University criteria.

Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.D., D.O., M.D./Ph.D., or other appropriate terminal degree from an accredited university in a discipline relevant to medical education and the responsibilities of the position.
- For physician candidates, board certification or board eligibility and eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Florida, as applicable.
- Demonstrated record in undergraduate medical education, including experience with curriculum development, course leadership, educational assessment, program administration, or related medical education activities.
- Demonstrated leadership experience within a school of medicine, academic health center, or comparable academic environment.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex academic initiatives and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, professional development, collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and fostering an educational environment that supports the College of Medicine's mission.
- Previous experience as a medical school course director, curriculum director, or in another significant leadership role within undergraduate medical education.
- Demonstrated record of teaching, educational scholarship, scholarly activity, and/or service appropriate to the academic rank sought.
- Knowledge of LCME accreditation standards and experience supporting accreditation, continuous quality improvement, or institutional medical education program evaluation.
- Experience with educational program evaluation, assessment of learner outcomes, and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, academic leaders, and other stakeholders across organizational and disciplinary boundaries.
- Experience with competency-based medical education, curricular mapping, educational program objectives, and horizontal and vertical curriculum integration.
- Experience with NBME examinations, CBSE, USMLE Step 1 outcomes, or other medical student assessment programs.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and supervising professional staff in an academic or medical education environment.
