Role Overview
As a Cytogenetic Technologist II, you'll perform advanced cytogenetics processing, analysis, and reporting to provide critical diagnostic insights that support superior patient care. We are seeking a seasoned technologist with strong skills in chromosome identification, who can also mentor junior technologists while ensuring quality and compliance with lab standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform cytogenetics processing: sample set-up, harvesting, dropping, banding, FISH slide prep, probing, and scanning
- Analyze slides (FISH and chromosome), image, and complete karyotyping
- Summarize test results, write karyotypes/FISH nomenclature, and prepare case reports for review
- Review test requisitions for case analysis and culture setup
- Identify normal vs. abnormal test results; troubleshoot/improve procedures as needed
- Independently complete lab tasks and projects, including new technology development
- Mentor and support Cytogenetic Technologist I staff to ensure standards are met
- Maintain quality control records
Certification & Licensure
- Required: ASCP in Cytogenetics (CG)
- Required: Florida Clinical Cytogenetics License
Education
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or related field
Experience
- Required: 4 years of clinical cytogenetics experience in a CLIA-certified lab
- Highly Preferred: Proficiency in chromosome identification, FISH analysis, ISCN, and case review
