Consumer Loan Underwriter

As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you will review and underwrite credit requests within loan authority limits assigned. Actively supports and demonstrates a commitment to a sales culture. Knowledge in lending products/services and overall understanding of credit union's products/services. Exceed expectations of internal and external members by anticipating needs to requests promptly by working to achieve Credit Union objectives.

Consumer Loan Underwriter Job Responsibilities:

• Promptly review and act on credit requests submitted through our Direct and Indirect platforms
• Approve or decline consumer loans requests using prudent judgement within the designated lending authority according to the credit unions policies and guidelines
• Increase, decrease or change the conditions of existing lines of credit within authorized guidelines
• Processes loans as warranted
• Communicates lending decisions on indirect loan applications to assigned dealers in a manner that provides the dealer prompt and efficient service
• Provides guidance in various loan alternatives or solutions to associates with recommendations for different credit union loan products and services
• Maintains knowledge of direct and indirect lending markets
• Explains loan policies, credit granting criteria, interest rates, loan calculations, as well as procedures and required documentation for each loan product

Consumer Loan Underwriter Experience:

• One year of loan authority experience (excluding automated approvals) demonstrating proficient skill in making loan decisions on motor vehicles and unsecured credit requests strongly preferred or Four years consumer lending experience demonstrating proficient skill in originating, processing or collecting loans
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Consumer Loan Underwriter Education:

• High School education or GED required
